چکیده

In this paper an automated methodology is presented (i) to orient a set of close-range images captured with a calibrated camera, and (ii) to extract dense and accurate point clouds starting from the estimated orientation parameters. The whole procedure combines different algorithms and techniques in order to obtain accurate 3D reconstructions in an automatic way. The exterior orientation parameters are estimated using a photogrammetric bundle adjustment with the image correspondences detected using areaand feature-based matching algorithms. Surface measurements are then performed using advanced multi-image matching techniques based on multiple image primitives. To demonstrate the reliability, precision and robustness of the procedure, several tests on different kinds of free-form objects are illustrated and discussed in the paper. Three-dimensional comparisons with range-based data are also carried out.

Combined use of Photogrammetric and Computer Vision techniques for fully automated and accurate 3D modeling of terrestrial objects

Nowadays commercial software able to automatically create an accurate 3D model from any sequence of terrestrial images is not available. This paper presents a methodology which is capable of processing markerless block of terrestrial digital images to perform a twofold task: (i) determine the exterior orientation parameters by using a progressive robust feature-based matching followed by a Leas...

Automation in 3d Reconstruction: Results on Different Kinds of Close-range Blocks

Automation in 3D reconstruction involves mainly two tasks: (i) image orientation and (ii) 3D scene reconstruction. Nowadays, automation in (i) can be considered solved for aerial photogrammetric projects, but a general and commercial solution is still pending in case of close-range image blocks. Here, the complexity and diversity of the network geometry make the automatic identification of the ...

Automatic Orientation of Multi-Scale Terrestrial Images for 3D Reconstruction

Image orientation requires ground control as a source of information for both indirect estimation and quality assessment to guarantee the accuracy of the photogrammetric processes. However, the orientation still depends on interactive measurements to locate the control entities over the images. This paper presents an automatic technique used to generate 3D control points from vertical panoramic...

Orientation of Airborne Laser Scanning Point Clouds with Multi-View, Multi-Scale Image Blocks

Comprehensive 3D modeling of our environment requires integration of terrestrial and airborne data, which is collected, preferably, using laser scanning and photogrammetric methods. However, integration of these multi-source data requires accurate relative orientations. In this article, two methods for solving relative orientation problems are presented. The first method includes registration b...
